In the urban context, this is an area of the city that is still within walking distance of the centre and could become a kind of extension belt - the threshold of the centre itself. The conservation of monuments prioritises the protection of the urban context of the former barracks as a starting point, preserving the open space within the perimeter as a testing ground for reconciling the old with the new, the historic with the contemporary. The conceptual design follows the original layout of the quadrangular complex from historic documents when the north side of the quadrangular complex was open towards the church. Overall, we are talking about a spatial design of the so-called spatium continui type of continuous space, which defines a scheme of limited space within which the open space is the connecting element of the whole and, in a broader context, links the campus into a coherent visual sequence with St Peter's Church on the end. In this case, the connecting element of the broader context is the externally designed open parterre space.
